Greg Prichard writes: Critical game for the Dragons. They are sixth, but could finish as high as fourth. A loss and they could drop to seventh and be playing sudden-death in the first final. The Dragons showed glimpses of their best in a win over the Warriors last week. They should be too strong.

AAP writes: St George Illawarra got the monkey off their back last week against the Warriors, but must keep the roll going against the Panthers. If weekend results go as expected it won't be enough to earn them a home final, but it could be enough to guarantee they play their qualifying final in Sydney against Wests Tigers - with plenty of red and white in the crowd.

Confidence is the big thing for the Dragons, if they can get a further boost before the finals start, then the defending premiers are capable of beating all of the big guns.

Penrith will throw the ball around, but there should be plenty of chances for the Dragons to perfect their execution in attack.

Key: St George Illawarra's lethal left-edge was back on song against the Warriors, and Jamie Soward and Darius Boyd started to get their timing back. This is an ominous sign for the Panthers.

DRAGONS: Darius Boyd, Brett Morris, Mark Gasnier, Matt Cooper, Jason Nightingale, Jamie Soward, Ben Hornby (capt), Dan Hunt, Dean Young, Michael Weyman, Beau Scott, Ben Creagh, Matt Prior. Interchange: Jon Green, Nathan Fien, Adam Cuthbertson, Trent Merrin, Mitch Rein (one to be omitted).

PANTHERS: Lachlan Coote, David Simmons, Taioalo Vai Vai, Brad Tighe, Adrian Purtell, Travis Burns, Luke Walsh, Sam McKendry, Nafe Seluini, Matthew Bell, Nathan Smith, Nigel Plum, Luke Lewis. Interchange: Kevin Kingston, Dayne Weston, Tim Grant, Blake Austin.
